Welcome to TLC’s new CEO

It gives us great pleasure to announce that after an extensive and thorough recruitment process led by the Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC) Board, Dr Katherine Tuft has been appointed as TLC’s next CEO. Kath brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in conservation from across Australia and we are thrilled to have her joining TLC after eight years as Chief Executive of Arid Recovery, an independent conservation not-for-profit in South Australia.

Kath is a conservation scientist with fifteen years of experience integrating land management and applied research in the Australian environmental NGO sector. She completed a PhD in ecology at the University of Sydney before working with the Australian Wildlife Conservancy in the Kimberley region in Western Australia, and most recently in the South Australian outback, leading Arid Recovery. Kath has family in Tasmania and is looking forward to bringing her husband and two sons to join her in Tasmania.

Statement from incoming CEO, Kath Tuft

“I am honoured to be taking on the responsibility of stewarding the Tasmanian Land Conservancy as CEO. TLC has a well-deserved reputation as a mature and effective organisation with a big heart for nature and people. I very much look forward to working with the TLC’s team, and many loyal partners and supporters. I would also like to express my sincere thanks to James Hattam and the TLC Board for their commitment to a smooth transition.”

Dr Kath Tuft

Kath will commence in late January 2025 and work closely with outgoing CEO, James Hattam for the first two months. To support the transition, Kath and James will be co-CEOs for the first month, with Kath taking on the CEO role on 24 February 2025 and James departing in mid-March.

We would to express our gratitude to James Hattam, acknowledging his legacy as a leader and all he has achieved during his 13 years with TLC.

Please join us all in congratulating Kath and making her feel like a part of the TLC family.
