The Great Pine Tier bushfire that started on January 15 in the state’s Central Highlands is currently burning, including on the TLC’s Five Rivers Reserve.
Substantial areas of the Five Rivers Reserve are in or adjacent to the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
TLC staff are on site and have been contributing to the control effort, monitoring the fire and liaising with the Tasmanian Fire Service. The forecast winds in the next few days are north west to north east, which will push the fire further onto the TLC’s land. There are no control lines on any boundaries so it is difficult to see where the fire will be controlled.
The TLC extends a huge thank you to all fire crews, the Tasmanian Fire Service and the Parks and Wildlife Service for their efforts.
