TLC team claims victory in kunanyi Mountain Run

In March 2024, a team of Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC) staff and supporters took part in (and won) the kunanyi Mountain Run. Participating in the Ultra Team Relay, TLC’s Daniel McMahon, Aimee Bliss and Elise Jeffery, along with fellow Tasmanians Daniel Rhodes and Tim Boyle traversed the mountain on Hobart’s doorstep, while also mobilising much needed fundraising support from their communities.

As well as taking out first place, they also raised over $2,400 for our conservation work and helped spread the word of TLC’s work to new friends.

The kMR is an epic trail running festival that celebrates Nipaluna/Hobart’s mountain culture and highlights all this beautiful landmark has to offer. After being welcomed and cleansed in a traditional smoking ceremony under the famous Organ Pipes, runners are guided through 66 km of diverse landscapes across 3,780 metres of elevation, including ferny gullies, dolerite boulder fields and eucalypt forests that give way to expansive 360-degree views.

In the lead up to the race, runners are also encouraged to explore the cultural significance of kunanyi and seek out their own connection with the sacred mountain before they are immersed in its unique settings.

kMR will also be happening next year and participants are invited to begin training and fundraising for this unique event that sees running mates come together to experience a special day of running on kunanyi. There are now 6 legs, ranging between 7 km and 12 km, on the same epic course as the Ultra Solo. Each leg has its own unique feature that will match every teammate’s trail running love. Teams can be made up of 2 to 6 runners (with runners doing multiple legs in smaller teams).

Many KMR runners have also been generously donating directly to TLC when they sign up for the event, which has totalled more than $5,000 for 2023 and 2024. We’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has contributed.

Adding a fundraising element to your race can deepen the connections and care we share with our natural environment as well as providing an ongoing legacy through vital funds for our ongoing conservation management work. It’s easy to organize, and the benefits last forever.

Thank you to Lincoln Quilliam, Catherine, and the entire kMR team for making TLC a charity partner of this fantastic event. We’re very grateful for all of the support!

And of course, congratulations again to our team for taking out the top spot.
