After growing up in Belgium and living in several countries across the world, I did not necessarily intend to make Tasmania my home when I arrived here in 1980 – but more than 40 years later, I am still happily living here.
Not long after my arrival, I became involved in the protests to save the Franklin River and fell in love with the Tasmanian bush, which has since become one of the main sources of inspiration for my artwork.
It was the late Andrew Cameron who introduced me to the Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC), and not long after, I held an exhibition of works inspired by the plants and creatures of Kunanyi at TLC’s former headquarters in Taroona.
In 2004, I purchased a bush block in Cygnet with the aim of protecting the wildlife. In recent years I have also become involved with Land for Wildlife. Although I have only ever seen Tasmanian devils on the block through the camera traps I set up, I love lying in bed in the hut at night, hearing the devils growl and roam outside in the dark while tiny pigmy possums scurry about inside and microbats flit through the air.
I will continue to contribute to this fund while I am alive and have made a bequest to TLC in my will. I hope you can help me through this fund to protect biodiversity and native animal habitat on our beautiful island.
