In 2024, father and son duo Phil and Ned Wise embarked on a remarkable journey, cycling from Hobart to Darwin—a feat that symbolised not just a physical challenge, but a profound commitment to the preservation of our natural world. Phil, a former Northern Territory Ranger now working with the Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC), and his son Ned, who is pursuing his Duke of Edinburgh Award, dedicated their ride to raising awareness and funds for two causes close to their hearts: the Tasmanian Land Conservancy and The Thin Green Line Foundation.
Phil and Ned’s journey was more than a remarkable adventure; it was a testament to their passion for conservation. Phil’s involvement with TLC has deepened his appreciation for Tasmania’s unique biodiversity, natural landscapes and the work being done to protect them. The Thin Green Line Foundation, which supports rangers worldwide in their fight to protect wildlife and habitats, was also close to their hearts. Through their ride, they aimed to spotlight the critical roles these organizations play in global conservation efforts.
Their mission went beyond personal achievement. Phil and Ned sought to empower others who wish to contribute meaningfully to our planet’s future. Through this fund, they aspire to collaborate with TLC to showcase the impact of their conservation work in Australia and highlight the vital contributions of Australia’s indigenous ranger groups. Their efforts also supported Ride4AWoman, raising approximately $1500 through presentations and donations along their route.
They would like to acknowledge the Tasmanian community and all the supporters who made this journey possible: MyRide Hobart, Wilderness Equipment, Sea to Summit, Patagonia, Officeworks Hobart, LedLenser, Tailored Tasmania, Pennicott Tours, and everyone they encountered along the way. Your support has been instrumental in driving positive change and fostering a greater connection to our natural world.
