Barbara Matthews established the Recycled Recreation Tasmania Fund with proceeds from creative garage sales, which supports the work of the Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC). Barbara and the team have combined a passion for adventure with a commitment to sustainability through Hobart/Nipaluna based business, Recycled Recreation.
Since 2000, Barbara has been dedicated to buying and selling quality outdoor gear for hiking, climbing, camping, and traveling. Her approach focuses on purchasing items directly from customers, allowing the business to support local community while minimising the amount of gear that ends up in landfill. Each piece acquired has the potential for a new life—whether through reuse, repair, recycling, or repurposing—giving adventurers the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors sustainably.
The Recycled Recreation team is made up of passionate adventurers, each with a diverse range of outdoor experiences. From bushwalking and rock climbing to kayaking and mountain biking, they share a love for the great outdoors. This collective expertise ensures that when you visit their Hobart store, you’ll receive tailored advice and recommendations for your adventures. They stock a wide variety of items, including packs, outdoor clothing, vintage wool blankets, climbing gear, and much more.
Their commitment to sustainability goes beyond their business model; it’s about creating a better future for the environment. By directing proceeds from garage sales into the TLC Foundation, they’re proud to support TLC’s conservation efforts, helping to preserve Tasmania’s natural landscapes for future generations. Barbara and Rex believe that every piece of outdoor gear sold contributes to a larger goal of responsible adventure and ecological stewardship. Together, we can inspire our community to embrace sustainable practices and make a positive impact on the world around us.
